Well, it might have been his bed but it sure looks like he could have used it for a bench too!

What a great addition to your collection.
It was probably a bench during the day, and a bed during the night. And very hard and uncomfortable in each use..People had hard lifes in those times!
In Norway bench bed (sengebenk) is an established term for way back when. Bench during the day - bed during the night.
